Moby Max

I have been using MobyMax for a long time. I'm actually pretty surprised I haven't blogged about it yet! About 2 years ago, I began working as a Title 1 tutor in my district. The group I worked with was 12 kids of ridiculously varied abilities. I had some really bright students with slower processing speeds, some average ability kids, and some kids with significant special education needs. Meeting with this group twice a week for only one hour per session gave me some serious challenges. I needed to find something to meet the needs of all the kids. I was talking about this group with a colleague at a PD session, and she recommended MobyMax (formerly MobyMath) to me. It was seriously a game changer.

MobyMax has curriculum in math (including concepts and math facts), reading, vocabulary skills, language, and writing.

Prior to beginning work in a subject area, the students take a placement test. The test identifies each student's areas of weakness, and targets them with direct instruction. Advanced kids can go through lessons at a fast pace, while students that struggle take their time and learn all aspects of the concept without feeling pressured to push through.

Each lesson includes an animated video to help the students to understand. The video can be reviewed in the middle of the practice problems. If a kiddo forgets how to do a problem or what strategy they were learning, they can click "teach me" to view the video again!

I can attest to this one. My title 1 students showed HUGE MAP test growth! I taught in my classroom one block per week, and then had the students work in MobyMax the other block. I saw kids go up an average of 5 MAP points in one term. One student went up 14 points!

Best of all- it's free. It's not "free for now"- it's free for good. There are some things you cannot access with the free version (student certificates, badges, IEP goals, etc) but I was able to live without them. The only really important piece that is not included in the free section is the "placement test" module. I don't know what I would do without this one! It is free for the first 30 days, so I highly recommend that you do this within your free trial.
